Craft Whiskey Wednesday Review #128 Barrell Bourbon Batch 28

Distillery: Barrell Craft Spirits

Proof: 108.86

Age: 10-11 Years

Mashbill: Undisclosed

BACKGROUND: Barrell Craft Spirits is a whiskey company that started in 2012. They source and blend all of their whiskey instead of distilling their own whiskey and they are very transparent about it. Barrell Craft Spirits continues to expand their offerings with bourbon, rye, and other types of whiskey including unique blends and finished whiskey. They gained an immense amount of fame from their batch 009 and most recently, their batch 21 earned double gold in 2020. They offer bourbon, rye, and American whiskey. Barrell Batch 28 is the newest release for Barrell’s yearly bourbon line. It comes from a combination of 10 to 11 year bourbons distilled in Indiana at MGP & in Tennessee at George Dickel.

NOSE: A delightfully fresh and potent nose. Opening with fresh scents of cherry, peach, and fresh orange rinds. As the light flavors mellowed a dark oak and honey started to present themselves without overpowering the fruity flavors.(22/25)

PALATE: An oily coat immediately covers your mouth the second you take that first sip, and before you can even process it, those light fruity flavors of citrus, cherry, and a light strawberry. Upon second sip I started pulling flavors of walnut, smoked vanilla, and a slight caramel bite that had an oak flavor running right along with it. (32/40)

FINISH: The finish was medium in length but quite mild. The orange rind flavor sticks with this one from start to finish, and is joined by a cracked pepper and and charred oak as the taste fades away.(20/25)

VALUE: For $80 I think this is a delightful treat. For a 10-11 year blend, I have no problem spending the full $80 on this. (7/10)

Overall: 81/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: Barrell continues to prove year in and year out why their brand is as successful as it is. A delicious mirage of sweet and hot that really brings a drink together. My Barrell collection keeps getting bigger by the year & I don't see that changing anytime soon!
