BACKGROUND: Templeton Rye Whiskey is a distillery built on small town tradition. One prohibition out all the manufacture and sale of alcohol beverages in January 1920, many residents of a small Iowa town became outlaws producing Whiskey known as Templeton Rye or “the good stuff“. Templeton is a beautiful distillery with rich history of the brand. They do add artificial flavoring in their whiskey.
NOSE: A lot of vanilla, rye spice, charred oak, caramel, and some coconut. It is well balanced and enjoyable (20/25)
PALATE: Surprisingly light for a rye, the palate is sweeter than the typical rye. It has lots of caramel, vanilla, toasted coconut, and more of baking spice (think cinnamon and nutmeg) than rye spice. There is a slight bitterness but overall it is smooth and easy to drink (30/40)
FINISH: A simple yet characteristically rye dominated finish. There’s also a good amount of oak, with a nice tingle. (20/25)
VALUE: With an SRP of $40 this is a great buy! It’s 6 years old, easy to sip, and has classic rye notes (8/10)
Overall: 78/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Templeton’s smooth and spicy taste makes it easy to concoct a delicious cocktail. It is the perfect drink to relax with with great company. This is smooth and enjoyable and makes one of the best old fashioned we have ever had.
