BACKGROUND: Wheel Horse Bourbon is a collaboration between the Owensboro Distilling Company, which was previously known as O.Z. Tyler & Latitude Beverage. Wheel Horse Bourbon is a sour mash small batch bottle. Wheel Horse Bourbon was brought to the market after the successful launch of Wheel Horse Rye, which scored a 94 in the NY international Spirits Competition. Shortly after, Owensboro announced the Wheel Horse Batch one, led by master distiller Jacob Call.
NOSE: A bold nose with bold sweet scents of cherry and pecan. There is a strong spiciness to this whiskey that comes off with a slight tobacco scent. (19/25)
PALATE: Up front there are toasty oak and spice notes that are followed up with notes of vanilla and maple syrup that coats your mouth. It has a very full mouthfeel and is very smooth. (29/40)
FINISH: The finish is short and is made up of light maple, baking spice, and oak. (18/25)
VALUE: With a $27.99 SRP this is a great value. (9/10)
Overall: 75/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Wheel Horse Sour Mash is a very tasty and smooth whiskey with classic bourbon notes. The whiskey has a very full flavor profile and an incredible value. This would make a great daily drinker for anyone. I strongly encourage you pick yourself up a bottle next time you see it on the shelf.
