BACKGROUND: Traverse City Whiskey Company is a distillery located in Traverse City, Michigan named aptly after their city. They were founded by Traverse City locals locals Chris Fredrickson and his partners, Jared Rapp and Moti Goldring after finding out Chris's great-grandfather had some whiskey distilling patents from the 1920s. They are very passionate about distilling and producing delicious whiskey while maintaining integrity to their history throughout the process. Their whiskey portfolio includes a straight bourbon whiskey, a barrel proof bourbon, an American cherry infused whiskey, this north coast rye, and a port wine finished bourbon whiskey.
NOSE: The nose opens with a sweet & tart combination of flavors. The two flavors that I was able to pull out the most were a lemon and citrus scent that were accompanied with a nice sweet corn and sawdust flavor. (20/25)
PALATE: The palate isn't as sweet as the nose, but still had flavors of lemon, cherry, light vanilla and a light oaky spice. (30/40)
FINISH: The finish was longer than expected as the oaky spice became more prevalent. As you finish your sip and absolutely delightful vanilla takes over begging you to take another sip. (22/25)
VALUE: Traverse City Straight Bourbon has a SRP of $40 which is a great price! (8/10)
Overall: 80/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: For a young whiskey this is a terrific bottle. Although there are no standout flavors, the overall blend makes for a very enjoyable, smooth drink. My favorite so far out of the Traverse collection!A very enjoyable whiskey, the ethanol flavor is wonderfully covered by the sweet flavors that come along. Smooth and full of flavor with a terrific finish!
