BACKGROUND: Axe & the Oak is a craft whiskey distillery in Colorado Springs, CO. They were founded by five friends who had passion for good whiskey, live music, and the great outdoors. These passions inspired them to launch an easy sipping whiskey distillery. They have 3 flagship whiskeys: this Colorado Mountain Bourbon, a Colorado Mountain Incline Rye, and Pikes Peak Hill Shine (white whiskey). They blend together in-house distilled whiskey that uses Colorado grains and blends it with MGP whiskey before proofing it down with Colorado water.
NOSE: The nose is on the lighter side but is very sweet with a dominant note of vanilla bean and vanilla extract. I also got some traces of honey and fresh cinnamon bread. There is no burn at all. (22/25)
PALATE: Like the nose, the whiskey is quite light but incredibly easy to drink. It starts off with strong notes of burnt caramel, overcharred oak, chewy wood, and vanilla. There are also notes of rye spice underneath. Overall it is very smooth and tasty. (30/40)
FINISH: The finish is on the shorter side but is dominated by rye spice, oak, and a bitter honey. It goes down very smooth, like water. (20/25)
VALUE: Axe & the Oak Bourbon has a $45 SRP which is a fair asking price. (7/10)
Overall: 79/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Axe & the Oak Bourbon is an easy sipping whiskey that goes down like water. I highly recommend this to any whiskey fan who likes sweet and easy sipping whiskey or to a new whiskey fan. This whiskey also makes for an excellent daily drinker. I was surprised at how easy it was to drink with a 92 proof, it drinks more like an 80 proof.
