Review #103 Jefferson's Ocean Voyage 21 Cask Strength

Distillery: Jefferson's Bourbon sourced from Kentucky Artisan Distillery

Proof: 112

Age: NAS

Mashbill: Undisclosed

BACKGROUND: Jefferson’s is a whiskey company that sources whiskey from Kentucky Artisan Distillers before aging and sometimes finishing the whiskey. There products are Jefferson's, Jefferson's Reserve, and Jefferson's Ocean, with limited releases of Ocean Cask Strength, Twin Oak, Chef's Collaboration, Rum Cask Finished and Pritchard Hill Cabernet Cask Finished bourbon. Jefferson’s got its name after the third president of the United States Thomas Jefferson. This bottle was is from their 21st voyage which is a cask strength release of Jefferson's Ocean

NOSE: The nose is sweet and roast with notes of roasted pecans, sweet and fresh caramel, baking spice, and maple. It is not as bold as I would have expected for a cask strength whiskey but is smooth, balanced, and sweet. (21/25)

PALATE: The whiskey is very spicy and tingly throughout the entire sip with a dryness to it. It has flavors of dried and charred oak, peanut brittle, bitter dark chocolate, and bold and prominent baking spice. It has a very voluptuous mouthfeel and is bold and warming. (34/40)

FINISH: The finish is very long and is dominated by cracked pepper, rye spice, and oak. It has a chewiness to it and warms you all the way to your stomach. (23/25)

VALUE: Jefferson's Ocean Cask Strength has an SRP of $90 which is pretty pricey. We would pay up to SRP but think this is worth trying to see how you like it before you buy it. (6/10)

Overall: 84/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: Jefferson's Ocean Cask Strength bourbon is a very, high proof bourbon whiskey with a spicy, dry, and bold flavor profile. It has a roughness around the edges that is very enjoyable. This is best enjoyed neat and by those who enjoy the subtle burn. If you want to get yourself a bottle you can keep an eye out for one of their future voyages or go to Drizzly by going here.
