BACKGROUND: George Dickel Distillery was founded in 1870 in Tullahoma, TN by you guessed it George Dickel. George distilled his whiskey in the cold winter to make for a smooth drinking whiskey. Today, George Dickel Distillery follows this tradition by chilling their whiskey before filtering it through sugar-maple charcoal, which is a unique chill filtration process. George Dickel distillery is one of the largest producers of whiskey and many distilleries source their whiskey from George Disckel. So, if you see a whiskey that says distilled in TN and bottled somewhere else, it is most likely from George Dickel Distillery. Last year, George Dickel Distillery debuted their bottled in bond Tennessee whiskey which was a great success. Their initial release had a 13 your age statement while maintaining a really solid $40 price point. It earned Whiskey of the year from Whiskey Advocate and was the top-rated American Whiskey of 2019 by Wine Enthusiast. This is their 2020 release which was distilled in the Fall of 2008.
NOSE: The nose is very sweet what’s the sense of rich caramelized brown sugar, fresh maple syrup, vanilla, toasted pecans, and citrus zest. There are also some charred oak notes and a slight peppery burn of the nostrils. Overall this is a sweet and sprite nose. (23/25)
PALATE: Like the nose, the palate is very sweet with notes of creamy vanilla, charred oak, maple syrup, roasted nuts, and all spice. It has a very rich and creamy feel to it with deep flavors. The allspice really kicks in on the tail end of the palate leading into the finish. (34/40)
FINISH: The allspice that ended the pallet really builds here along with flavors of cinnamon and heavy char oak. It is medium in length and is nice a peppery. (20/25)
VALUE: With an SRP of $40 this is an absolute steal! (10/10)
Overall: 88/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: George Dickel‘s 2020 release of their bottled in bond at 11 years old is absolutely fantastic! We strongly recommend you grab yourself this bottle if you see it sitting on the shelf. This is a great daily drinker had a great value with great flavors.
