Distillery: Bear Creek Distillery
Proof: 90
Age: 3 years
Mashbill: Undisclosed
BACKGROUND: In 2012 Bear Creek opened their doors with the goal to produce the greatest bourbon to come out of Colorado. All grains are mashed, fermented, matured, and distilled in house. The employees take great pride in producing the highest quality dram. Each batch is aged in 53 gallon American white oak barrels for at least 2 years. The flavor profile in BCD’s bourbon is said to mimic Colorado’s warm days and cool nights.
NOSE: The nose was a bit hard to pull from at first showing light notes of oak and leather. After adding a drop of water, it opens right up. Scents of maple brown sugar are followed by tobacco, banana, charred oak, and roasted barley dance around your senses with a delightful undertone of baking spice. (22/25)
PALATE: A very thick and creamy feel flows around you mouth after the first sip, lined with flavors of molasses and bron sugar. As I took the second sip I was able to pull light flavors of dried fruits, tobacco, and baking spice. (29/40)
FINISH: A relatively short finish, leaving you with the notes of dried fruits, tobacco, and leather that mellow into a light charred spice. (21/25)
VALUE: For $50 this is a wonderful bottle for anyone who loves the dark notes of whiskey. (7/10)
Overall: 79/100
