BACKGROUND: Syntax Straight Bourbon is sourced from the Poudre River located in Colorado, & is 100% grain to glass, made with all local ingredients. Each batch made is aged in 53 gallon barrels for at least 2 years then transferred to rapid-aging small barrels. Heather, master distiller, believed whiskey was made to be sipped straight, so she made Syntax with that in mind. Syntax has won 2 gold medals in 2015 & 2017 in the Wizard of Whiskey awards & received a BTI rating of 89.
NOSE: The nose opens up sweet and bold with notes of caramel, brown sugar, and plays that blends brilliantly with a honey and sweet sugar flavor, comparable to candy corn. (22/25)
PALATE: The plate on this is dry and oily, coating your mouth with fruity notes of apricot, peach, and toffee. Along with the sweet fruity flavors there is a spice pepper flavor that you can feel wrap around your tongue that slowly turns into a zesty dry fruit taste. (30/40)
FINISH: The finish follows right along with the palate leaving you with a warm spice flavor that slowly fades into an okay sweetness leaving you wanting more. (21/25)
VALUE: For $50 this is the perfect buy for anyone who like whiskeys that dance between sweet and spicy. (7/10)
Overall: 80/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: I was very impressed by how flavorful this whiskey was being so young. Full of bright and spice flavors, definitely a great add to any collection.
