BACKGROUND: Treaty Oak Distillery is a true craft Texas whiskey distillery in Dripping Springs, TX. Being deep in the heart of Texas, Treaty Oak is subject to extreme heat and temperature fluctuation which gives its whiskey a distinct and unique flavor profile. Treaty Oak distills their own whiskey while also sourcing from George Dickel. They have 5 main spirits, Red Handed straight bourbon whiskey from Dickel, Ghost Hill Texas Bourbon which is their own juice, Schenley Reserve Rye which is a 10 year old sourced Rye, and 2 different RTDs. Treaty Oak was founded in 2006 by Daniel Barnes who is a West Texas native and became the 4th operating and licensed distillery in Texas. Treaty Oak has a really cool 28 acre ranch where you can listen to music, catch a meal, and try their fantastic whiskey. This specific barrel was selected by ABC Liquor in Austin, TX. NOSE: Very rich scents of caramel, cherry, chocolate, and oaky baking spice waft up from the glass. There is the slightest hint of ethanol burn reminding you to proceed with caution. Overall, the nose is rich, sweet, and well balanced with a subtle boldness attributable to the proof. (22/25)
PALATE: As soon as you take the first sip you are met but a syrupy, rich mouthfeel with notes of dark cherry, butterscotch, leather, all-spice, and charred oak barrel. As the sip progresses, there is an ever-growing amount of spice that leaves your mouth tingling long after the finish. (35/40)
FINISH: The finish is medium in length with notes of roasted peanuts, tons of charred oak, cacao, and baking spice. Overall, the finish is slightly dry but rounds the whiskey out well. (22/25)
VALUE: With a $65 SRP this is a great bourbon whiskey with lots of character and deep flavors. (7/10)
Overall: 86/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: This single barrel pick by ABC Liquor is a great bourbon whiskey with rich and bold flavors. The proof masks itself in rich flavors while maintaining rich and smooth flavors. We strongly recommend grabbing yourself a bottle if you get the chance!
