Review #19 Wild Turkey Master's Keep Revival

Updated: Feb 18, 2021

Distillery: Wild Turkey

Proof: 101

Age: Blend of 12-15 yr old bourbons

Mashbill: 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Malted Barley

BACKGROUND: Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Revival is the third release in the Master’s Keep series, after the 17 yr original and Decades. Revival is a nod to Jimmy Russell’s limited-release Wild Turkey Sherry Signature in early 2000. Revival, like Sherry Signature, is a bourbon finished in an Oloroso sherry casks. Unlike many sherry cask finished whiskeys that generally use barrels that held sherry for single digit years, the ones Eddie sourced, much like his father did, held sherry for 20 years. A total of 1,600 cases of Revival were produced.

NOSE: Toasted Brown sugar, cherries, hints of spice and light oak nose. We definitely got the sherry sweetness as well in the nose. I could smell this all day everyday (24/25)

PALATE: Rye spice is immediately prominent and powerful that trails off to some wonderful notes of dried fruit, cherries, oak, tannins, and warm caramel. It has a rich mouthfeel that coats your entire mouth with a chewiness to it. (37/40)

FINISH: The finish is long and buttery with some smooth oak and dried fruits. (23/25)

VALUE: The Master's Keep collection has an SRP that is quite high at $150. Now don’t get me wrong, this is a great finished bourbon but it’s slightly high. I think $100 is perfect for this. (7/10)

Overall: 91/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: In our opinion many finished bourbons are overly flavored in the finished barrel but this one was spot on. Great job by Wild Turkey! It has a perfect balance of rye spice, sherry sweetness, and aged oak. This was fantastic and I’m really glad I have a bottle.

Similar & Slightly Better Whiskey: We haven't found one yet.

Similar & Equal Whiskey: A Midwinter's Night Dram Act 8, Scene 2

Similar & Slightly Worse Whiskey: Angels' Envy Cask Strength (2020(
