BACKGROUND: King's Family Distillery is a craft whiskey distillery nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountain in Tennessee. They were founded in 2018 by power couple Justin and Cara King. Justin and Cara had more than a decade of experience across a vast array of the whiskey industry. This rye is bottled at 90 proof and sells for around $45.
NOSE: The rye spice is quite prevalent when you raise the glass to your nose lined with flavors of charred oak, green apple, male brown sugar, and toffee. The is also a very fresh ora that shows throughout, comparable to the smell of a fresh creek out in nature. (21/25)
PALATE: Quite a thin feel on the mouth, swirling around with the feel of a delicious light dram. Flavors of dark licorice and smokey tobacco show up front followed by sweeter fruity notes of orange zest & dark cherry. (31/40)
FINISH: A medium finish that follows right along with the nose and palate giving flavors of charred oak, toasted tobacco, rye spice, with an absolutely delightful hazelnut not that ties it all together leaving you begging for more (21/25)
VALUE: For $45 this is a delightful rye that can be made into a delicious old fashioned or enjoyed neat (7/10)
Overall: 80/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Kings Family distillery has a killer lineup and the rye fits right along with the rest, wonderful and loaded with flavor! I made an old fashion that was absolutely delightful.
