Distillery: Nevada Distilling Company sourced from MGP
Proof: 98.6
Age: Blend of 6 & 16 year of rye whiskeys
Mashbill: The 6 yr rye is 95% rye and 5% barley (MGP); the 16 yr rye has 80% rye, 10% malted barley (NDC)
BACKGROUND: Midwinter's Night Dram is a highly sought after whiskey produced by Nevada Distilling Company. Midwinter's Night Dram is a limited release rye whiskey that is finished in French oak port wine barrels.
NOSE: Sweet cherry wine, very light hints of spice and a touch of oak. It is a very sweet nose (23/25)
PALATE: The sip opens up with some rye spice followed by a nice subtle sweetness. The spice is never overpowering and is accompanied by hints of oak, cherry vanilla and port wine (37/40)
FINISH: Midwinter's Night Dram has a long, velvet like, spicy finish with hints of cherries and dried fruit (23/25)
VALUE: Midwinter's Night Dram carries an SRP of $90 which is a little pricey. Now this is a fantastic finished rye whiskey that I thoroughly enjoyed but I think it should sit more at $75. However if you see it for $100 or less buy, buy, buy! (8/10)
Overall: 91/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Midwinter's Night Dram lived up to all of the hype behind it and then some. This is the first finished rye whiskey we have reviewed and what a way to start it off. It is the perfect balance of wine sweetness and rye spice. I will always try to keep a backup bottle of this. This is a fantastic whiskey!
