Review #229 A Midwinters Night Dram Act 9 Scene 5

Distillery: High West Distillery

Proof: 98.6

Age: NAS

Mashbill: N/A

BACKGROUND: A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 9 Scene 5 was released in 2021 out of the High West Distillery, out of Park City Utah. This is the ninth rendition of the MWND line. The blend is a combination of MGP Rye Whiskey and High West Distillery's Rendevous Rye Whiskey finished in Ruby and Tawny Port Barrels barrels bottled at 49.3% APV.

NOSE: A deep, sweet nose loaded with warm oak mixed delightfully with notes of plum, sweet wine, brown sugar, and graham cracker. (23/25)

PALATE: A light mouthfeel with low viscosity. The front end is loaded up with rye notes giving a cracked pepper spice & light mint clove flavoring, followed by notes of strong dark fruits, plums, dry nuts, capped off with a delightful brown sugar cap. (33/40)

FINISH: As the sweet dark fruits start to fade, you are left with the rye notes as that mint clove flavor starts to peek out going back and forth with a fruity oak spice until you're left with nothing. (22/25)

VALUE: For $100 High West’s MWND is a bottle I look forward to each and every year. The perfect whiskey to break on a cold night to warm you right up! (7/10)

Overall: 85/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: MWND has always been one of my favorite yearly whiskeys & 2021 was NOT a disappointment. Hopefully we will be able to locate some of the other scenes from this years release!
