BACKGROUND: Larceny is a wheated bourbon line distilled and produced by Heaven Hill. Larceny is one of the few wheated bourbons on the market competing with Makers Mark and Weller primarily. Wheated bourbons are traditionally smoother and sweeter without the bite that the rye provides. In 2020, Heaven Hill decided that they would entire the tri-annual cask strength release market by releasing their wheated bourbon, Larceny, at cask strength. A120 was the first release and it had mixed reviews and this is their second release.
NOSE: The nose opens with a rich butterscotch, that turns into a spicy cinnamon, along with toasted oak, and molasses, and a back end kick of ethanol. (21/25)
PALATE: The proof makes itself known right off the bat with a tingle of your lips and an explosion of flavors that include honey, charred oak, and a spiced vanilla. The proof makes itself known throughout the entire sip which was very enjoyable. (34/40)
FINISH: A medium finish with flavors of spice, cinnamon, vanilla, and honey. The spice dominates the finish (22/25)
VALUE: A nice barrel proof bourbon for a very fair $50. I personally love barrel proof bottles and am glad I got this one off the shelf! (7/10)
Overall: 84/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Larceny Barrel Proof B520 was a slight improvement to batch A120. The flavors all work together while not being overpowered by the proof. This is a very smooth bourbon that is priced fairly and is one of the few cask strength wheated bourbons on the market.
