Distillery: Buffalo Trace
Proof: 90
Age: NAS (Rumored to be between 8-10 years, usually 9.5 years)
Mashbill: Undisclosed
BACKGROUND: Buffalo Trace was first released to the market in 1999 and is made from Buffalo Trace distillery's mashbill #1 which is thought to be made up of 10% or less rye. According to Buffalo Trace’s website, the bourbon is batched from no more than 40 barrels at a time and is aged on the middle floors of various warehouses where it experiences the most temperature changes.
NOSE: The nose is quite light and is difficult to get a lot of flavors but it is gives off an overall floral sweetness with some light vanilla, orange peel, oak, and rye spice. (19/25)
PALATE: Buffalo Trace is an easy drinking whiskey! It is made up of smooth notes of vanilla, charred oak, light spice, honey, and some brown sugar. It is surprisingly on the sweeter side but is still very smooth and delicious. (30/40)
FINISH: The sip fades away with tons of spice, oak, and cracked pepper. There is a slight bitterness on the finish that we can't put our tongue on. It is medium in length and has a full mouthfeel. (19/25)
VALUE: Buffalo Trace has a $30 SRP which is a perfect price for this enjoyable and classic bourbon. (9/10)
Overall: 77/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Buffalo Trace bourbon whiskey is one of the most classic bourbons out there. It is smooth, tasty, and easy to drink while being full of character and flavor. This is the perfect daily sipper and is something that is so reliable. I would recommend this be one of the first whiskeys anyone tries.
