Distillery: Wild Turkey
Proof: 86
Age: 8 years
Mashbill: 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Malted Barley
BACKGROUND: Wild Turkey Longbranch is one of the first collaboration bottles coming from Wild Turkey's new creative director Matthew McConaughey…yes, that Matthew McConaughey. The bourbon is inspired by his Kentucky & Austin, TX roots. This is the first product that Wild Turkey has ever released featuring someone aside from their master distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell.
Nose: Longbranch has a very light nose but we were able to pull out some light scents of nutmeg, caramel, and vanilla. The proof is so low that it is hard to pull much from this. (17/25)
PALATE: The whiskey has a light and creamy mouthfeel with notes of honey, citrus rind, rye spice, oak, and light vanilla. It is a very easy whiskey to drink which can be attributed to the low proof. (28/40)
FINISH: The finish is very short but I was able to pull out some notes of rye spice and oak. It is very straightforward, simple, and quick. (19/25)
VALUE: Longbranch has a $30 SRP which is a nice change from the ever raising prices of bourbon. It is very fairly priced. (8/10)
Overall: 72/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a sub-par whiskey with a cool back story. It does not have many flavors and is quite light across the board. This is a whiskey I would keep on the shelf or buy to mix in a cocktail.
