Distillery: Four Roses
Proof: 90
Age: NAS
Mashbill: Blend of 2 mashbills: 75% Corn, 20% Rye, 5% Malted Barley & 60% Corn, 35% Rye, 5% Malted Barley
BACKGROUND: Four Roses uses 2 different mashbills and 5 different yeast strains to create 10 unique bourbon recipes. Their small batch bourbon is a blend of their OBSK, OESK, OBSO, and OESO recipes which use both the E mashbill and the B mashbill. It is rumored that the average age is between 6-7 yrs for the blended whiskeys.
NOSE: Lots of spice and oak on this along with some hints of citrus fruits. There is a presence of ethanol in the background that cannot be denied. Its a simple nose that is also quite light (17/25)
PALATE: A very easy sip! It is a lighter palate due to the low proof but definitely get the high rye, along with some light vanilla, caramel, and honey. It’s a delicate palate due it being so light, it almost feels flimsy. I wouldn’t add water or ice as it may break the light balance (30/40)
FINISH: The finish is hard to find but then it comes back with a lot of spice and oak. It lingers in the back of the mouth. (19/25)
VALUE: With an SRP of $30 this is a great buy and perfectly priced! (8/10)
Overall: 74/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: This is a whiskey that made us fall in love with bourbon and our introductory bourbon. We had this early on in our whiskey journey and it truly is the perfect introduction bourbon. Easy to drink with classic bourbon notes at a great price.
