BACKGROUND: A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 8 Scene 2 was released in 2020 out of the High West Distillery, out of Park City Utah. This is the eighth rendition of the MWND line. The blend is a combination of 6 year MGP straight rye and a 16 year Barton straight rye, finished in French Oak port wine barrels bottled at 49.3% APV.
NOSE: The epitome of a dessert nose opening with hints of caramelized brown sugar, cinnamon, sweet cherries, light baking spice, and light hints of nuts. (23/25)
PALATE: The palate does hide any surprises coating your mouth with a sweet coat of brown sugar, cinnamon, that turns to a dark chocolate taste. Along with the sweet flavors I was able to pull the plum & red cherry flavors coming from the port barrels. (36/40)
FINISH: A light sweet finish lined with flavors of rye bread, wine, and sweet cherries. A delightful way to wrap up the sip leaving you begging for more. (23/25)
VALUE: Midwinter Night's Dram is a fantastic bottle, coming in with a price point of $80. Most stores we've seen typically charge around $100 with secondary market prices going through the roof.(9/10)
Overall: 91/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: It is no wonder MWND has the allure and desire. The perfect sweet rye that warms your chest is perfect for the colder seasons. If you see this bottle for under $100 don't think twice.
