BACKGROUND: Jefferson’s is a whiskey company that sources whiskey from Kentucky Artisan Distillers before aging and sometimes finishing the whiskey. There products are Jefferson's, Jefferson's Reserve, and Jefferson's Ocean, with limited releases of Ocean Cask Strength, Twin Oak, Chef's Collaboration, Rum Cask Finished and Pritchard Hill Cabernet Cask Finished bourbon. Jefferson’s got its name after the third president of the United States Thomas Jefferson. This bottle was a private barrel selection by Total Wines in Sarasota, FL
NOSE: Very simple, sweet, and smooth with strong notes of caramel, vanilla, maple, and young oak. It’s on the lighter side but is smooth and sweet with no burn (21/25)
PALATE: Like the nose, the palate is simple but has a nice bite to it. It also is quite light in feel and flavor development but you’re able to get simple notes of vanilla, oak, and rye spice. Overall it’s very simple and light (30/40)
FINISH: The finish starts off with a bitterness not found in the palate that overpowers the oak and spice notes that are there. It’s short and light but very bitter (20/25)
VALUE: Jefferson’s Reserve Private Barrels has a SRP of $45 which is pretty high for this one (6/10)
Overall: 77/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Jefferson’s Reserve is a pretty tasty bottle of whiskey but nothing special. It’s a good daily drinker but at that price there are many better bottles.
