Review #98 Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond 7 Year

Distillery: Heaven Hill

Proof: 100 Proof

Age: 7 Years

Mashbill: 78% Corn, 12% Malted Barley, 10% Rye

BACKGROUND: Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond used to be a Kentucky exclusive, 6 year old bourbon whiskey. In 2018, Heaven Hill announced that they would discontinue the whiskey which was a shock to the bourbon community, but, they then announced that they were going to re-release it to more states with an extra year on the age statement. Heaven Hill distills and produces Henry McKenna, Larceny, Old Fitzgerald, Parker's Heritage, Elijah Craig, Evan Williams, and Rittenhouse whiskey to name a few of their brands. Heaven Hill first produced whiskey in 1936, they aged it for four additional years and released it in 1939 as Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond. Therefore, this whiskey is Heaven Hill returning to their roots and giving a nod to their history and origination as a bottled in bond bourbon whiskey. To be bottled-in-bond a whiskey must be produced in one distillery and distillery during just on distillation season which can run from January-June or July-December, be aged at least 4 years, and be exactly 100 proof.

NOSE: Rich and classic bourbon notes waft up in the form of rich and deep caramel, smooth rye spice, dried cherry, and oak. It is rich, smooth, and balanced with mature and deep notes. (23/25)

PALATE: Up front there is tingling rye spice that is followed by velvety caramel, sweet vanilla, toasted graham cracker, chewy leather, and rich charred oak. It is well balanced and has a very smooth mouthfeel. It also drinks like a higher proof whiskey by having a bold and intense flavor profile. (35/40)

FINISH: The finish is long and inviting with sweet nutmeg, smooth charred oak, tannins, leather, baking spice, and dried citrus fruit. It is long and has a nice sweetness that is not common in the finish. It also has a full mouthfeel and leaves you wanting another sip. (23/25)

VALUE: Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond boasts a $40 SRP which is an incredible value for this whiskey. We would pay up to $65 for this. (8/10)

Overall: 89/100

FINAL THOUGHTS: Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond is a delicious bourbon whiskey that has a full and bold flavor profile made up of sweet and spicy notes. We strong recommend this whiskey to anyone and everyone.
