BACKGROUND: Jefferson’s is a whiskey company that sources whiskey from Kentucky Artisan Distillers before aging and sometimes finishing the whiskey. There products are Jefferson's, Jefferson's Reserve, and Jefferson's Ocean, with limited releases of Ocean Cask Strength, Twin Oak, Chef's Collaboration, Rum Cask Finished and Pritchard Hill Cabernet Cask Finished bourbon. Jefferson’s got its name after the third president of the United States Thomas Jefferson. This bottle was a private barrel selection by Holmdel Buy Rite from Voyage 22 which is a wheated mashbill. Holmdel Buy Rite has an excellent whiskey selection and great people, check them out in Holmdel, NJ or at this link.
NOSE: The nose is on the lighter side but is very sweet. It has scents of sweet marshmellow, vanilla, cherries, and butterscotch. It is balanced and refreshing. (21/25)
PALATE: This whiskey is very creamy and smooth with notes of caramel, oak, dried appricots, and clove. It is very enjoyable and easy to drink. It has a nice candied flavor profile that makes this an excellent dessert or summer dram. (33/40)
FINISH: The finish is long, balanced, and smooth with notes of cinnamon, oak, and cracked pepper. (22/25)
VALUE: Jefferson's Ocean wheated has a SRP of $75 which is on the pricier side. (6/10)
Overall: 82/100
FINAL THOUGHTS: Jefferson's Ocean Wheated is not as good as it's rye batches. This barrel was very smooth and sweet but just didn't have the fullness and richness that is found in most Jefferson's Oceans. This is still a tasty whiskey that would be excellent in the summer time or as a dessert whiskey. We would recommend this to anyone who likes light drinking and sweet whiskey.
